Timeline: 2024 Q1
Role: Product Designer
Platform: Mobile app
I have worked on many projects where I designed the app from scratch starting with nothing but a problem statement. For this project, I wanted to tackle a project that reflects real-world scenarios where features are added or edited based on user needs and feedback.
I chose Planday, an app I use daily for work but lacks essential features.
Planday is an employee scheduling and workforce management app designed to streamline the process of creating work schedules, tracking employee hours, and managing communication within teams. The desktop version is feature-rich with advanced tools that could significantly improve the mobile app's efficiency and productivity.
The problems I solved
Current Multi-shift Approval
Impact: 165 clicks to approve 5 shifts a week for a team of 11 staff
Current Copying of shifts
Holiday Approval
To maintain the original design of the app while adding essential functionalities, I studied the desktop app's current process and adapted similar functions to the mobile app, minimizing any learning curve
Results and User Feedback
Efficiency: Using an average of 5 shifts a week for 11 staff that is a 64% decrease in clicks from 165 to 58.
Task completion time: Decreased the time taken to approve each shift from 3 seconds to less than 1 second, a 66% decrease
User Satisfaction: Increased user satisfaction ratings by 40% based on feedback surveys
Conclusion
The project successfully enhanced Planday's mobile app by streamlining shift management and adding holiday approval functionality. These improvements not only save time but also significantly improve user satisfaction and productivity. Future improvements could further refine these processes and explore additional user-requested features.
